Sept 17, 2014, 7:00pm, Loosemore Auditorium - James W. Carey Memorial Lecture -speaker Sheldon Solomon, Professor of Social Psychology at Skidmore College . The topic he will address is related to his work in Terror Management and how people's fear of death influences their attitudes and behaviors.
October 23rd, 3-5 pm - Campus/Community Book Discussion- KC 2263
Students, faculty/staff, and community members will have the opportunity to engage in an intimate, authentic discussion on the issues raised in “Five Days at Memorial.” This will be an opportunity to hear multiple perspectives and share thoughts about why things happened as they did (civil discourse encouraged and promoted).
November 19th, 6:00, Emergency Planning Panel Discussion, Loosemore Auditorium
In her book, “Five Days at Memorial,” Fink explores the emergency management planning (or lack thereof) that led to much of the chaos at Memorial Hospital. What goes into a emergency plan? What are considerations that need to be accounted for? What groups are responsible for collaborating to ensure effective execution? Local experts from medical and community disaster planning and response units will address these issues in the book, and, will discuss what we have done and continue to do here in West Michigan to ensure emergency preparedness for local disasters.
February 23rd, 6-8 PM, Dr. Joseph J. Fins, M.D., M.A.C.P.,Health Care Delivery: Whither Professionalism When Disaster Strikes?, Forum Room (Seidman Building)
Dr. Fins is the E .William Davis, Jr. M.D. Professor of Medical Ethics and Chief of the Division of Medical Ethics at Weill Cornell Medical College, where he also serves as Professor of Medicine (with Tenure), Professor of Health Care Policy and Research, and Professor of Medicine in Psychiatry.
March 24-25th, Author Sherri Fink Visit and Lecture.
Sherri will be speaking at Herrick District Library in Holland on the evening of the 24th, and will be addressing the GVSU and Grand Rapids communities on the evening of the 25th. Specific schedule of events forthcoming.
