When you declare a psychology major (Psychology, Biopsychology, Psychology/Special Education, or Behavioral Science) you will be assigned a faculty advisor. Approximately two weeks after you declare your major at the Student Assistance Center in STU, you will receive an email from the Psychology Department with your faculty advisor's name, current office hours, phone number and email address.
Your faculty advisor serves as your mentor in regard to making major decisions about your career direction, choosing courses and experiences to enhance the knowledge and skills you will need in your specific career or graduate work, and helping you to plan the most effective strategy for graduate school admission.
Psychology faculty members' open office hours are posted each semester on their office doors. You do not need an appointment to drop in during office hours. If it is not possible to meet with your advisor during their posted hours, talk to them or send an email. Often you will be able to schedule another mutually-agreeable time to get together.
Getting to know faculty members can be one of the most rewarding experiences during college for students and faculty, so do not hesitate to talk to your advisor.
To ensure accurate advising, always bring a current copy of your Degree Progress form to your meeting with your advisor.
