Applying for the Robert Hendersen Leadership Award

If you feel you would be good candidate for this award – and if you meet the eligibility criteria listed on the award home page – we encourage you send an application via email to Dr. Amanda Dillard of the Psychology Department Awards Committee at [email protected].

Please provide your full name, your preferred email address (if different from the one used to send the application), and your phone number in the body of your application email.  A completed application should include the following:

Required Items

  • An essay of between 500 and 1000 words in which you (a) introduce yourself, (b) reflect upon your leadership experience and how you have made a positive difference on campus, in your community, or at your place of work, and (c) meaningfully connect your leadership activities with your major in psychology or behavioral neuroscience.  (Your essay should be submitted as a Word or PDF attachment to your application email.)
  • A letter of support from a mentor – a faculty member, an advisor, a community figure, or a manager – who has personal experience with your leadership abilities.  (Do not send this letter yourself – instead, have your mentor email their letter of support directly to [email protected] as a Word or PDF attachment.)

Optional (but Recommended) Items

  • Up to three “artifacts” or “souvenirs” related to your leadership activities.  Artifacts and souvenirs can include (but are not limited to) photographs, video clips, links to relevant websites, event programs, press releases, and products created by groups you have lead.  (Photos, videos, and scanned images should be sent as file attachments to your application email.  Web links can be included in the body of your email.  Any artifacts or souvenirs you send should be briefly described somewhere in your email.)
  • A letter of support from a peer – a fellow student or a colleague – who has personally observed your engagement in one or more leadership roles.  (Do not send this letter yourself – instead, have your peer email their letter of support directly to [email protected]  as a Word or PDF attachment.)
