Initiatives

Big Data
Grand Valley State University has many talented faculty, staff, and students working in the field of data analytics. We offer courses and programs in the field of data analytics, as well as speakers and other events open to the GVSU community and the public.

Community Engagement
Community engagement describes the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their communities (local, regional/state, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. (Adapted from the Carnegie Foundation and cited in the Glossary of Terms for GVSU’s Strategic Plan 2016 – 2021.)

Making Waves
Making Waves about Water is a University initiative to create collaboration across campus among students, faculty, and staff, as well as to with the community. The goal of the Initiative is to explore and investigate the many ways that water touches our lives, from being a life-force to defining GVSU in relation to the Grand River and Lake Michigan. The Initiative has the potential to clearly define GVSU: a liberal arts institution where we  integrate theory with practice to prepare students for the challenges of our world.

GVSU Quest Series
Capitalizing on the University's broad expertise and spirit of inquiry, the GVSU Quest Series is an Academic Affairs forum to reflect on timely issues. These events are intended to help us frame the questions, discover connections, and hopefully generate many subsequent conversations and inquiries.
