| A liberal education has always been at the heart of Grand Valley State University’s mission. A diverse environment is essential in promoting the values of this liberal education for the shaping of intellect, creativity, and intercultural competence. At Grand Valley diversity is a learning resource and must be nurtured as an intellectual asset. The passage of Proposal 2 has presented a challenge in the university’s journey to create a diverse learning community. This test of our values will ultimately strengthen Grand Valley’s commitment to providing a rich learning environment as stated in the university’s vision, mission, and values.
