Presidents' Ball 2024: What to Expect

TICKET INFORMATION:

TICKETS

  • Dance Only: $20
  • Awards Program & Dance: $30

Ticket Details:

  • Tickets are only available to purchase online - no tickets will be sold at the door. Ticket sales close Friday, February 2, 2024 at 5 p.m.
  • Each GVSU student, faculty, or staff may purchase two tickets
  • All attendees must bring a valid ID
  • Once ticket is purchased no refunds will be issued except in the event of cancelation of Presidents' Ball

The Following Items are Strictly Prohibited:

  • Food, drinks, or any containers
  • Weapons of any kind: knives, fireworks, mace, lighters, etc.
  • Mace/Pepper spray
  • Signs/posters that would block view of others
  • Cigarettes, e-cigarettes, drugs, or alcohol of any kind

Sensory Sensitive Rooms

Sensory Safe Rooms will be available from 9:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. in the Upstairs River Overlook Rooms. There will be sunglasses, ear plugs, board games, stress balls, and coloring pages available. 

Attendance Information

Picture ID and ticket required for admission. Alcohol sales will be available at a cash bar until 10 p.m. Please bring a valid State-Issued ID for purchase. 

Doors for dinner & awards program will open at 5:30 p.m. and will close at 7 p.m.

Doors for the dance will open at 9 p.m. and will close at 10 p.m.

The event will conclude at 12 a.m. (Midnight).

Small clutch purse no bigger than 6.5" x 4.5" and clear bags no larger than 12" x 12" will be allowed. All bags are subject to search by security staff and security has the right to inspect any item at any time.

Exceptions will be made for medical bags and necessary medical equipment.

The DeVos Place will have alcohol sales available until 10 p.m. The bar is a cashless bar and ONLY credit cards will be accepted. Please bring a valid state issued ID.

Direct charter buses are available from the Kirkhof Center in Allendale to DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids. Food and beverages are prohibited on the bus.

Last charter bus departs from the Kirkhof Center at 9:30 p.m.
Last charter bus departs from the DeVos Place at 1 a.m.

Coat check is available. GVSU is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Shoes and bags not accepted. It is recommended to not leave valuables unattended.

Use Lyon Street entrance. Walk-through metal detectors, wanding, and bag checks will be conducted at every point-of-entry into the DeVos Place. We encourage all guests to have their ticket(s) and ID ready in advance of entering. This will help to avoid long lines and wait times.

Uber Drop-Off Location (Corner of Lyon St. & Monroe) - Please do not pull onto Lyon Street in order to give access to the charter buses. 

Take the time to educate yourself on how to party smart. Know your resources and action plan before attending Presidents' Ball. For any questions on how to party smart, reach out to the Alcohol & Other Drugs Services at [email protected].

 

Photographs and video will be taken during this event. Your presence gives consent for any such photographs or video to be used for advertising and publicity purposes by Grand Valley State University.

All guest will subject to a security check and screening at the venue. For their own safety, students who appear to be intoxicated will not be able to enter the event or ride the charter buses to downtown.

Prohibited items include:

  • Outside food or beverage
  • Weapons
  • Alcohol, vapes, and other drugs
  • Small clutch purse no bigger than 6.5" x 4.5" and clear bags no larger than 12" x 12" will be allowed

SOCIAL HOUR & AWARDS PROGRAM

Social Hour: 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.  

Awards Program: 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Social Hour & Awards Program Doors Close: 7:30 p.m.

Award Recipients 2024

Award Recipients for 2024 will be forthcoming. Nominations will be accepted until January 20, 2024.

Awards presented are: Laker of the Year (Staff), Laker of the Year (Student), Student Award for Faculty Excellence & Presidents' Appreciation Award.

DANCE

Dance: 9 p.m – 12 a.m. (midnight)

Alcohol Sales End: 10 p.m.

Doors Close: 10 p.m.

Music

This year we’re featuring DJ Composition in the ballroom and a live jazz band performing upstairs, offering an evening full of music for everyone!

 The live jazz band will be performing in the River Overlook (upstairs) until 11 p.m.!
