Description of Lecture:
Dr. Bedford’s lecture will focus on the need for anthropology and social science in global health. Dr. Bedford and her team at Anthrologica have worked in over thirty countries and she will draw on examples from their recent work in public health emergencies, particularly Ebola and Zika, and from applied research in development. This will be an interactive lecture, with time for questions and discussion.
Biography of speaker
Juliet Bedford is the Founder and Director of Anthrologica. Anthrologica is an international research organisation specialising in applied anthropology in global health and conducting formative and operational research at the interface between the provision and uptake of health services (www.anthrologica.com). Juliet has over fifteen years technical experience in developing contexts, fragile states and emergency settings and has worked intensively across Africa, South and Southeast Asia. She was heavily engaged in the Ebola response in West Africa with the UNMEER and UNICEF and has been supporting the coordination of social science and operational research in the Zika response for the WHO and partners. Juliet holds a Doctorate in Anthropology from the University of Oxford, where she is a Research Associate at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, and is an Adjunct Professor at the College of Global Public Health at New York University.
