Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, is  about to experience the biggest day of his life. He is just one question away from winning the grand prize on the Indian version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a “slumdog” with very little education know so much?
Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal recounts the story of his life in the slum where he grew up with each chapter of his story revealing the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions. “Slumdog” brings a voice to the slums of Mumbai and touches on issues of poverty, income distribution, corrupt law enforcement
officials, prostitution, and religious discrimination.
