Sam Stephenson

Originally from Port Huron, Michigan, Sam Stephenson attended St. Clair County Community College before coming to GVSU. He graduated from GVSU in April 2012 with a B.A. in international relations and a minor in international business. Since leaving GVSU, Sam has joined the Air Force. He completed basic training in February 2013 and was stationed in Monterey, California for more than a year at the Defense Language Institute on the Presidio of Monterey. In Monterey he studied and became proficient in several languages. Since the end of 2014, Sam has attended multiple training courses and is now stationed near Omaha, Nebraska, where he works as an aircrew member.

Sam writes, “My experience at GVSU was great from an academic perspective, as well as the social environment in which I found myself as an international relations student. My professors gave me a great foundation for how I approach my job today by constantly challenging my views and forcing me to think critically. I also sought out and surrounded myself with as many exchange students as I could, because I believed that was how I would be able to benefit the most from my time at Grand Valley and my experience was all the more richer and enjoyable for it. I learned just as much, if not more, from interacting with them than I did in the classroom. These experiences have helped greatly in my career up to this point which has taken me all over the globe in both professional and personal capacities.”
