Social Security Information In order to apply for a social security card you must be either F-1 Status or J-1 status. Additionally, you must have the following documents: Social Security Application Passport I-20/DS 2019 I-94 Arrival/Departure Card Letter from GVSU If you arrive to Grand Valley for the Fall Semester, Social Security Administrators will be at orientation. If you arrive for any other semester, you must apply for a social security card on your own. The Social Security office in Grand Rapids is located at 50 College Avenue. Directions from GVSU's Pew Campus are as follows: Walk East on Fulton Street (up the hill) Turn South on College Avenue. Social Security is located on the left.
