STAIR APPLICATION STEPS
The STAIR program requires students to complete two different applications for each study abroad destination. Students must apply through the GVSU online application system (OASIS) for approval by the home university. In addition, students will be required to submit a STAIR application that will be forwarded to each host university. The STAIR application will be forwarded on to the host institution for final review and approval.
 
 
  1. Begin your OASIS application for Padnos International Center at www.gvsu.edu/studyabroad.
 
Application Deadlines:
Fall semester start: OASIS application must be complete by January 15th.
Winter semester start: OASIS application must be complete by September 10th.
 
    1. You will need to complete two applications in OASIS, one for STAIR – Poland and one for STAIR – Hungary. You will be required to submit a completed application for the site you intend on starting with, including: 2 faculty references, essay questions, and the $100 deposit.
 
Fall semester starts in Debrecen.
Winter semester starts in Krakow.
 
If you intend to start the STAIR program in the fall semester, you will complete the STAIR- Hungary application in its entirety. The STAIR – Poland will be your second application.
 
    1. The second application will be for the site you will be located at for the 2nd semester.
                                                i.     You may use the same essay answers for this application except for the question: Based on your knowledge of current events, what would you consider to be the most significant events or developments taking place in the country in which you plan to live? You will need to have a separate response for each country
                                                  ii.     For the Faculty recommendations, please list: Rebecca Hambleton hambletr@gvsu.edu and Chris Borda bordac@gvsu.edu .
                                               iii.     The second $100 application deposit is waived for STAIR applicants. Please call Rebecca Hambleton or Chris Borda at 331-3898 in order to have the 2nd deposit waived.
                                           iv.     Once the deposit has been waived, please login to your OASIS account and finalize your application. This will change your status from ‘incomplete’ to ‘Pending Approval.
 
    1. Once the OASIS applications have been completed, please turn in one letter of recommendation from a GVSU faculty member, and turn in a statement of interest. The STAIR Academic Board will review your OASIS applications, your statement of interest, and your letter of recommendation in order to make final decisions on candidates for the program. 

      The statement of interest should include information on how the STAIR program fits with your academic and career goals. It should address why you are interested in studying in Poland and Hungary and what you will bring to the program if selected. It is important to show evidence of having some background knowledge of these two countries and the role they play in Europe and the world.
 
  1. Once you have been accepted as a STAIR participant, download the STAIR Application from www.gvsu.edu/pic This application will be forwarded to the host University for review and approval. Please note: the STAIR application requires you to submit a letter of recommendation and a statement of interest. These two items will be collected from you when you complete your OASIS application. You will not be required to submit the information again for the STAIR application. and provide the necessary information.
 
The STAIR application will be due to PIC by:
Fall Semester start: February 15th   
Winter Semester start: October 1st
