Coming Up

Friday February 10 from 11:30-1:00pm
in Mackinac Hall (MAK BLL-132)

“Endurance and Indiscernibility”

There will be a student-lead discussion of Trenton Merricks' article "Endurance and Indiscernibility" (The Journal of Philosophy, Vol. 91, No. 4 (Apr., 1994), pp. 165-184), which has to do with the metaphysical issue of how objects can be identical at different times, despite having very different physical characteristics (for example, the question of what makes a 35 year old adult 'the same as' or 'identical to' the person that she was when she was 16). The essay is available through the GVSU Library website and copies are also available in the Philosophy Department main office.

(A reading is available in the Philosophy Department Main Office MAK B3-105)

GENERAL INFORMATION AND MEETING TIMES

The Philosophical Society of Grand Valley State University is a student organization that meets weekly to discuss philosophy and issues related to philosophy.  The meetings are informal and are usually based on discussion of a selected topic or short reading, or involve a presentation by a student, GVSU faculty member or external guest speaker. Everyone is welcome to attend Philosophical Society meetings.
No special background in philosophy is required and it’s OK to just come for part of a meeting if that’s all that your schedule allows.

During the Winter 2012 semester the Philosophical Society will be holding its regular meetings on Fridays from 11:30am to 1:00pm in Mackinac Hall BLL-132.    When there is a reading for a meeting it will be available in the Philosophy Main Office: Mackinac Hall B3-105.
