GVSU Engineering Student Leads Young Women at STEPS Camp

TheĀ Science Technology & Engineering Preview Summer Camp for Girls, or STEPS Camp, introduces girls between 6th and 7th grade to engineering at the PEW campus. Local engineers, certified pilots, and GVSU faculty guide the girls through the design, construction, and flight of radio controlled airplanes. STEPS emphasizes positive female role models in STEM through the counselors and volunteers. The STEPS counselors are female GVSU students with STEM majors (mostly Engineering), and one counselor is a STEPS graduate herself. The camp runs for two weeks every June, and I had the privilege of volunteering with these campers this summer.
