Beckman Scholars Program Faculty Mentor: Sok Kean Khoo, Ph.D.

Dr. Sok Kean Khoo is an associate professor in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology. She is a molecular geneticist with research interests in translational biomarker discovery, development and validation. Her ongoing research projects focus on using biofluid-based microRNAs as diagnostics and progression biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease to improve disease management and treatment.

Dr. Khoo received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in applied biology from University of Science, Malaysia. She obtained her Ph.D. in fisheries genetics from the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and completed her postdoctoral training in molecular cancer genetics at the Van Andel Institute.
