Student Chapter of the American String Teachers Association
Four ASTA members will be going to Tampa, Florida for the National Convention of the American String Teachers Association
The ASTA chapter will be involved with the Alex Aninos Scholarship Recital.

ASTA will be having guest speakers on topics such as teaching students with disabilities, and retention/ recruitment of ensembles.
For GVSU String Leadership Day, ASTA members helped with registration, setting up chairs/ stands, and baking cookies. Students from the ASTA chapter also helped lead sectionals at a local middle school in Hudsonville.
The ASTA chapter will be providing cookies at a reception after the April 18 concert of the GVSU Symphony Orchestra.
The Department of Music and Dance at Grand Valley State University is proud to announce the formation of a student chapter of the American String Teachers Association. Chapter membership includes string players from the Symphony Orchestra who are pursuing BME, BM, and BA degrees. Guitarists, harpists and other string enthusiasts are welcomed.
During its first semester the chapter members participated in several service projects, including helping with an all-night String Festival at Hudsonville Riley Middle School. During the winter semester, well-known speakers will be presenting topics on string pedagogy at chapter meetings.
Three students attended the National ASTA conference in Louisville, got excited, and worked to form a student chapter at GVSU.
