8:00 to 8:45  Registration [LOUIS ARMSTRONG THEATER LOBBY]

9:00 to 10:30 Sectional Rehearsals 

  • First violins with Gregory Maytan [ON STAGE]
  • Second violins with Megan Crawford [ROOM 1515]
  • Violas with Paul Swantek [ROOM 1200]
  • Cellos with Pablo Mahave-Veglia [ROOM 1410]
  • Basses with Michael Hovnanian [Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall] 

10:45 to 11:55 [ON STAGE] String Leadership Day Orchestra Rehearsal 

11:55 to 12:15 Mini-Recital by the GVSU Faculty String Trio [ON STAGE]

12:15 to 1:00 Lunch provided for all students and directors  [ROOM 1515]

1:10 to 2:30 Master Classes [with selection for Best of the Day soloists]

2:45 to 4:00 [ON STAGE] String Leadership Day Orchestra Rehearsal 

4:00 to 4:15  [LAT LOBBY] break for refreshments, sponsored by GVSU ASTA

4:20 to 5:30 [ON STAGE] String Leadership Day Orchestra Dress Rehearsal

[4:00 to 6:00 Individual rehearsal time with staff accompanist for Best of the Day soloists in Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall]

5:30 to 7:00 Monitored storage for instruments [backstage]

5:30 to 7:00 [FREE TIME] Dinner on your own and change into concert dress

7:00 CONCERT storage for cases [backstage]

[ALL students must be in audience for first half of concert]

  • Performance by Best of the Day student soloists 
  • GVSU Opera Theater, Henry Duitman, conductor (Puccini, Selections from 'Gianni Schicchi')
  • String Leadership Day Festival Orchestra, Henry Duitman, conductor (Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, Piazzolla Libertango )
