Monday, August 14, 2017 at 1:00 pm in Cook DeWitt Center, Allendale Campus: GVSU String Leadership Camp presents a recital by the Avalon Quartet.
The award-winning Avalon Quartet is the quartet in residence at Northern Illinois University and has been heard in West Michigan as part of the Saugatuck Chamber Music Festival and the White Lake Chamber Music Festival. They will be teaching camp students during the day and presenting this hour long recital for the students and general public. More information on the quartet may be found here.
Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 1:00 pm in Cook DeWitt Center, Allendale Campus: GVSU String Leadership Camp presents the Faculty Recital.
GVSU faculty members, including Gregory Maytan, violin; Paul Swantek, viola; Pablo Mahave-Veglia, cello; Michael Hovnanian, bass will be joined by Grand Rapids Symphony violinists, James and Megan Crawford in this hour long recital.
Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 7:00 pm in Cook DeWitt Center, Allendale Campus: GVSU String Leadership Camp presents the Camp Concert.
The 27 students of the camp will demonstrate what they have learned during the last few days of chamber music instruction They will perform in trios, quartets, and quintets as well as in the Chamber Orchestra conducted by Henry Duitman.

GVSU cello professor, Dr. Pablo Mahave-Veglia will perform Haydn's Cello Concerto in C with the GVSU Chamber Orchestra as part of a concert which also features the finest area professionals and guest artist, Trevor Exter.
Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the Caledonia High School Fine Arts Center: Side by Side Concert.
For their annual Side by Side Concert, the GVSU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Henry Duitman, will share the concert with the exceptional Caledonia High School Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jesse Liker. On their part of the program the GVSU ensemble will perform Dvorak's much-loved Symphony No. 8 in G Major and the orchestras will combine for a performance of Beethoven's Egmont Overture.
Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 7:00 pm in Louis Armstrong Theater: String Leadership Day Concert.
Building on the success of eight previous String Leadership Days, 2017's String Leadership Day will bring more than 60 of Michigan's finest high school string players to GVSU to combine with the GVSU Symphony Orchestra string players for a day of concentrated rehearsals, sectionals and master classes. Students wishing to attend may be nominated by their high school director or their private teacher at gvsu.edu/stringleadership. The evening program will feature Best of Day soloists, the GVSU Faculty String Trio, faculty artist trumpeter Alex Wilson, and the 100 member Festival Orchestra, conducted by Henry Duitman, performing Dag Wiren's Serenade for Strings.
Monday, December 4 at 7:30 pm in Fountain Street Church (24 Fountain St. N.E., Grand Rapids): GVSU Fall Arts Celebration presents A Celebration of French Music for the Holiday Season.
Playing in the beautiful, historic, and acoustically wonderful Fountain Street Church, the GVSU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Henry Duitman, will be joined by the GVSU University Arts Chorale, Chamber Choirs from Hudsonville and East Grand Rapids High Schools, the Grand Rapids Symphony Junior Youth Chorus, dancers from the GVSU Dance Department, and soprano Ashly Neumann. Central to this delightful program of French music will be Francis Poulenc's majestic Gloria.

This yearly event is always a musical highlight for both audience and performers. Two GVSU music students, winners of the 2018 Concerto Competition, will perform their concertos with the Symphony Orchestra. Concluding this final concert of the year, we plan to pull out all the stops..literally...on the 4 manual 53 rank Skinner/Muller Organ in a performance of Camille Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 3, often called the Organ Symphony. We are delighted to be able to perform this amazing work in spacious Park Church collaborating with their superb principal organist, Steven Smith.
