University Bands

Welcome to the home of the Grand Valley State University Bands!

The concert bands, the anchor of our program, consists of The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and University Band. All ensembles offer, to both music and non-music majors, an opportunity to continue music at the collegiate level. While concerts occur throughout the year on the Allendale campus with all groups, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble often performs at state and national conferences.

The athletic band program consists of the “Pride of the Midwest” Laker Marching Band that is one of the largest and most visible NCAA Div. II marching bands in the country and has provided quality music and entertainment for football fans since 1977. As one of the most diversified and visible organizations on campus, the 220 member Laker Marching Band is composed of students who represent over 50 different degree plans. The 38 member Basketball Pep Band plays at the home games of the men's and women's basketball games and frequently travels to post-season tourney games. The 18 member (brass and percussion only) Volleyball Pep Band plays at the home games of the GVSU Women's Volleyball Team and frequently travels to post-season tourney games.

If you are interested in a wonderful musical experience as either a music major or non music major, Grand Valley State University Bands should be at the top of your list. Use this website to guide you, and to explore all that the GVSU Band program has to offer. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail one of our ensemble directors.
