Kimberly Veenstra holds a Ph.D. in music theory from the Ohio State University, where she served as a graduate teaching associate for three years and was granted the Award for Outstanding Teaching Associates two years in a row. Dr. Veenstra also held a graduate teaching assistantship at Michigan State University, where she earned a Master of Music degree in music theory. Dr. Veenstra pursued her undergraduate studies at Calvin College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music theory and composition.
Dr. Veenstra joined the Grand Valley State University faculty in 2012. Her responsibilities include teaching Fundamentals of Music and other courses in the General Education program. Prior to teaching at GVSU, Dr. Veenstra was an adjunct instructor of music theory at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Michigan. In addition to teaching in the college classroom, she maintains an active musical life as a piano accompanist and a private piano lesson instructor.
