Grand Valley State University 4th Annual Double Reed Day November 14, 2009 Double Reed Home | Faculty | Schedule | Hear what others had to say! | Online Registration Double Reed Day
Double Reed Day is an intensive workshop for oboe and bassoon enthusiasts and includes sessions that will benefit middle school, high school, college students, amateurs, and band directors who want to improve their playing skills, share their interest with other double reed musicians, participate in a large double reed ensemble, listen to experts, view new instruments, and have a college campus experience for a day. The day will include workshops for beginning oboists and band directors, ensemble playing, maintenance and repair clinics, reed-making workshops, exhibitions of instruments, and recitals featuring Grand Valley faculty and special guest artists. This year our special guest artists are oboist Scott Hostetler of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and bassoonist Christopher Millard of the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Professor of Bassoon at the Northwestern University. Repair clinics and instrument exhibitions will feature acclaimed oboe and bassoon repairmen, Carlos Coelho and Ken Potsic, and oboes and bassoons from Miller Marketing. All events are free, but an on-line registration is required at www.gvsu.edu/music. Registration will close on November 9, 2009. A late fee of $5 will be charged at the door for walk-ins. A complete schedule of the day's events can also be found online at www.gvsu.edu/music. If you have any questions, please contact Marlen Vavrikova at (616) 331-2999 or email at vavrikom@gvsu.edu. Double Reed Day will be a rich environment for players of all ages. Whether you have played double reeds for one month or one week, please join us on November 14! Sincerely, Marlen Vavrikova John Clapp Assistant Professor, Oboe Artist-Faculty, Bassoon
