Scholarships In addition to a generous array of academic scholarships and awards based on financial need, the Department of Music annually awards nearly $200,000 in talent scholarships to students in music and dance who show exceptional talent as performers and composers. Department of Music scholarships are awarded on the basis of achievement and potential in music and dance performance (by audition) and composition (portfolio). NOTE: All students entering GVSU with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and a minimum ACT composite score of 26, receive an automatic $1200/yr grant. Further opportunities are open to honors students. For a comprehensive university-wide listing of scholarships and grants available to students, request the pamphlet on scholarships available from the Admissions Office or Financial Aid.
Opportunities for employment through the Department of Music include student aides, ensemble librarians, student supervisors, studio manager, and more. Check with ensemble directors for further information relative to these employment opportunities. Most of these and additional employment opportunities are available through the Federal Work-Study Program, and the opportunies are generous to those who qualify. (Qualification is based upon need.) The Department of Music engages a number of students under this program, but assignment is made from the Financial Aid Office in the Student Services Building. The Music Department Coordinator, Radhika Mohan, can provide information about opportunities under this program. (These opportunities are available to dance students and music students.) Phone 616-331-3484 or email worthemc@gvsu.edu.
