Orchestra

GVSU offers players of orchestral instruments a variety of exciting ensemble experiences, whether they plan to pursue solo playing, careers as symphony musicians, as members of chamber ensembles, or as music educators in public schools or colleges.

Chamber Music Playing
All music majors are encouraged to participate in small ensembles that are coached by our artist faculty. Music 104. One credit.

Grand Valley State University Symphony Orchestra
The 80-member Grand Valley State University Symphony Orchestra performs the finest repertoire available for large orchestra, with at least two concerts each semester. We feature important works for orchestra alone, works with student or faculty soloists, and works in combination with GVSU choral ensembles or on occasion in collaboration with community professional performance organizations. Music 103. One credit.

Representative Repertoire: Brahms, Concerto for Violin and Viola; Beethoven, Egmont Overture; Dvorak, Symphony No. 6; Kodály, Háry János Suite; Prokofiev, Lieutenant Kije; R. Strauss, Death and Transfiguration
