Double Reed Day 2012

  1. PARTICIPANTS - $10 (late fee $15)
    As a participant you will be actively taking part in one or more events, such as performing in a master class, playing in the Double Reed Ensemble, or participating in the Green Program. Even if not signed-up to perform, all participants are encouraged to bring their instruments to all events listed on the DRD 2012 Schedule.

    ♫ Green Program
    This program is designed for middle school students or younger, or anybody who is thinking about starting to play either oboe or bassoon. Green Program participants will be chaperoned from event to event. Parents are encouraged to attend.

  2. OBSERVERS - Free
    As an observer you will receive GVSU DRD 2012 PASS that will enable you to attend all events. This level of registration is suggested for parents. No lunch is included with this level of registration. You can purchase lunch separately.

Bring your instrument and music you are working on - this can be a solo, a study (Barret, Weissenborn, etc.), or band or orchestra music. You will have an opportunity to play in the class and try out some of the practice techniques.


Bring your instruments! A couple of volunteers will have an opportunity to play with musicians from the Grand Rapids Symphony.


The DRD 2012 Reed Making Classes are designed for oboists and bassoonists, who have some experience with making their own reeds. Main focus will be on scraping techniques and final adjustments.




Music will be available at the Registration Desk, or you may request a copy before arriving on campus by emailing Dr. Vavrikova vavrikom@gvsu.edu. This ensemble reading is open to all oboists and bassoonists,. Please let us know about your level, so we can assign you an appropriate part.

Bring your instruments and solos! You will be given feedback about what to work on and what to expect from judges. You are encouraged to bring a copy of your piano accompaniment and if your pianist is available, he/she is welcome to join you in your performance.
