Academy Trio performs Richard Stöhr
Date and Time
Wednesday, January 17, 2018 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Description
Richard Stöhr (1874-1967) was a celebrated composer, respected author and revered teacher at the Vienna Academy of Music. Ousted and exiled by the Nazis because of his Jewish heritage, Stöhr emigrated to the US in 1939 and taught at the Curtis Institute before settling in Vermont. He never returned to Vienna and his music has largely been forgotten. In October 2014, Stefan Koch presented the Cello and Piano music of Richard Stöhr during CelloFest. On January 17, 2018 he returns with Mary Siciliano, piano and Laura Roelofs, violin to perform Richard Stöhr's early masterpiece, the Piano Trio Op. 16 (1905). This late Romantic work has never been performed in the US until now. The performers have a CD of the work coming out in January.
