Ted Craig serves as Adjunct Professor and Assistant Director of the Laker Marching Band. His duties include teaching music education courses and assisting with all aspects of the Laker Marching Band. Prior to his appointment at Grand Valley, Craig served as Director of Bands and Orchestra at South Christian High School in Grand Rapids, MI for 11 years. Before that, he was Assistant Director of bands at Cheboygan Area Schools in Cheboygan, MI. He began his music education career at Centreville Public Schools as K-12 music director.
Mr. Craig received his Master of Music Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois where he studied conducting with Dr. Charles T. Menghini. He graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s in Music Education in 1996. At Grand Valley he received the Laker Marching Band Musical Excellence Award as well as the Louis Armstrong Jazz Scholarship.
He has a wife of 12 years and three boys aged 10, 6 and 3. He spends his free time with his family camping and playing sports. He also plays trumpet in the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra as well as various musicals around the area.
