Major Declaration Online Procedure

1. Students who are Physical Education Majors must also declare an emphasis area. Students cannot graduate without an emphasis area if they are a Physical Education major at GVSU.
2. Students who are Physical Education Majors have 4 emphasis areas to choose from:
   1. Athletic Training
   2. Coaching
   3. Corporate Wellness/Fitness
   4. K-12 Professional Instruction
3. Athletic Training, Coaching, or Corporate Wellness/Fitness Emphasisstudents need to follow steps 1-6 below and at that point they will see a screen that shows how they are currently ''declared''.
4. K-12 Professional Instruction: There are 3 required elements to declare this major:
   1. Major - Physical Education (Professional Instruction) emphasis,
   2. Minor - either Elementary Education or a ''teachable minor'', (see Secondary Teacher Certification, 2. Teaching Minor, p.306, 2003-04 GVSU Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog for a complete list of minors).
   3. Teacher Certification - (elementary or secondary), follow the instructions below through step 8. At that point, you will see a screen that shows how you are currently ''declared''. Check to ensure that you have declared all 3 elements.
5. Steps for the Online Major Declaration Procedure:
   1. Go to sis.gvsu.edu
   2. Login with student ID and password.
   3. Click on ''Academic Records.''
   4. Click on ''Change Program'' - K-12 Professional Instruction students remember this page - you will need to go back to it to declare your minor and teacher certification - these are required for furture teachers.
   5. click on ''Change Major'' to Physical Education and be sure to include your emphasis area:
      • Physical Education Athletic Training (PED ATH)
      • Physical Education Coaching (PED COA)
      • Physical Education Corporate Wellness/Fitness (PED WEL)
      • Physical Education Professional Instruction (PED PRI)
      NOTE: DO NOT select Physical Education (PED) without an emphasis area.
   6. Click on ''Submit.''
      Steps for Physical Education (Professional Instruction) and other P.E. majors who wish to declare a minor:
   7. Hit the back button until you get back to the ''Major/Minor/Advisor Update'' main Page.
   8. Then go through the similar processes for declaring your minor (click on ''change minor'') and for Physical Education (Professional Instruction) teacher Certification click on ''change cert'' (elementary or secondary).
