 Dr. Mary C. Schutten has been honored as the 2009 MAHPERD University Health Educator of the Year. The Board of Directors and Awards Committee of the Michigan Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD) commend Dr. Schutten for her contributions to the teaching profession. Some of those contributions are: the community-school- university peer education partnership in which students in Health Education serve as peer educators in Ottawa County high schools; service learning activities with the Grand Rapids Hospice; the Alternate Option Teacher Preparation program for current teachers of health to gain the health endorsement, and collaboration with the local intermediate school districts in research and teaching. She will receive her award at the MAHPERD Awards Celebration, Nov 12 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City.
 Dr. Jeffrey Lemmer was elected President-Elect for the American College of Sports Medicine's Midwest Chapter. He will be perform the duties of President-Elect during 2009, and then will serve as President and Past-President. Dr. Lemmer previously was a Member-At-Large on the MWACSM board. |
