What is the Spanish Writing Center?

The Spanish Writing Center is a place (MAK B-2-244; please check out the information about how to make and appointment and the walk-ins) where students in 100, 200 or 300 classes can come to receive assistance with their writing assignments. Students in 400 level classes need special permission from their professor to attend the center.

We can help you to brainstorm for topic ideas, develop theses for your papers, organize your essays, learn how to revise and collaborate in the proofreading process, identify grammar error patterns, and locate sentence or punctuation errors. We also provide you with useful handouts, strategies for composing and editing, and references for consultation. However, we will not help you correct the individual grammar or spelling errors. In this way you will practice skills that will improve your long-term writing ability.

The process of becoming a better writer is not achieved through writing consultants simply correcting your errors. The purpose is to help you develop stronger writing skills, but it does not guarantee higher grades on individual essays.

If you have any questions about the Spanish Writing Center, you can e-mail Professor Maria Fidalgo-Eick (fidalgom@gvsu.edu) or stop by her office (MAK B-2-263) during her office hours or by appointment (616-331-8567).
