Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church Participate in music for Roman Catholic liturgies in a parish that serves Spanish-speaking immigrant families in the Southwest Grand Rapids area. There might also be opportunities for work in other areas of the parish including assisting with ESL programs, tutoring for school students (K-8 Catholic school), or office help. Requirements include preference for individuals with musical skills, however, none musical students can be referred to the school principal or other staff members looking for non-musical experienced students. Gamaliel Internship Nombre de la Agrupación/ Name of the Agency: Gamaliel/UFCW951 The Hispanic Center of Western Michigan We need volunteers for the following: 1. 10 to 20 Tutors: We have after school tutoring for youth, ages 14 to 21, that are high school, GED and/or college freshmen. Tutoring is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tutors must pass a criminal background check and commit to at least one day per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. This provides consistency to the lives of the youth and offers a more meaningful experience for the tutor. Monday/Wednesday is for the HOY Program (males and females) and Tuesday/Thursday is for the Supporting Our Leaders (SOL) Program for Hispanic males that are transitioning from gang/street life to mainstream. 1. 2 to 6 SOL Outreach Workers: We are in need of interns to conduct outreach to the schools we serve. They will serve as role models, truancy officers and academic monitors for the SOL Program. Interns will need to be trained regarding youth gang intervention. We ask for a 2 semester commitment, as the intern will receive extensive training. Interns should be culturally competent with both Hispanic and youth cultures. A criminal and driving record background check is required. Interns must have a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation. Mileage is reimbursable. Must be comfortable working with gang affiliated and inner-city youth. To apply, interns should Email a cover letter and resume to me. SOL Program Interns: The SOL Program serves Hispanic males, age 14 to 21, and their families to live productive, healthy and violence-free lives. We are a gang intervention program with great opportunities for professional development for college students. We need interns to serve as Family Outreach Coordinators (coordinate monthly parent meetings, home visits and other family support services), Administrative Assistant to the Director of Youth Intervention Services (make flyers, coordinate meetings, job shadow the director, type meeting minutes, Email, fax, file, coordinate events (Day of the Dead, Holiday Food Baskets), etc…) Spanish is strongly preferred, but not required. The Humane Society of Kent County runs several programs which help low income families keep their pets in their homes. Approximately 30% of their clients that they work with are Spanish speaking only. They are seeking a student who is fluent in Spanish to help at some of the pet events they run for the Hispanic community.The ideal candidate would be able to help at the Pet Care Assistance Events, held once a month for 4 hours as well as help with phone calls and translation of documents.
