Travis Antcliff graduated from GVSU in 2009 with a BS in mathematics (secondary teaching emphasis) and psychology minor. He is currently employed as a risk consultant with Federated Mutual Insurance Company in South Carolina. In his position, Travis helps clients reduce their risk with practices and programs designed by Federated. He also conducts safety reviews and building valuations for new clients.
Travis values the problem solving skills he developed as a mathematics major. “All of the problem solving skills I learned in the math department helps me help our clients.” In addition, he feels his mathematics courses taught him important writing skills as well as the ability to persevere on difficult problems. “the concise technical writing skills I developed helps me writing up my reports. The perseverance I developed from the math department guides me though tough situations.”
Travis feels that a mathematics major prepares students for a variety of careers. “The skills you will learn with a math degree will be practical for most any career.”
