Mathematics Courses at
Grand Valley State University

As a department, we think about our courses falling into three principal areas: Foundations, which includes all 100-level and non-credit mathematics courses; Upper Division Mathematics, which includes calculus and above; and Mathematics Education, which includes all math classes taught with pre-service teachers in mind. Our faculty more often than not teaches in more than one area, and all of us are concerned with the education of all our students. In all classes we try to model the best of teaching techniques, including cooperative group work, critical thinking and writing, and use of graphing calculators, computers and other technology.
