All Spotlights » Mentoring In Action
During a July 2013 visit, Dr. William Schroeder introduced MAREC to two of the GVSU undergraduate chemistry students he is mentoring through a part-time research appointment in GVSU’s Chemistry Department. From left, Dr. Schroeder is accompanied by students Katie Uhl and Allie Bouza. Mentoring students in research at both the undergraduate and graduate level is a priority at GVSU.
Dr. Schroeder is senior vice president and co-owner of Trace Analytical Laboratories Inc. based in Muskegon. Schroeder has also been partnering with MAREC in support of its Business Accelerator Fund (BAF) grant clients, including Vinazene, a company in Ann Arbor working on flow battery technology.
Schroeder has held an appointment with the Chemistry Department for the past 10 years. Along with Dr. Robert Smart, Professor of Chemistry at GVSU, Dr. Schroeder has been directing the research efforts of several senior students, including a project to discover new antibacterial substances.
