Position Announcement: Associate Director for Research and Technology

Grand Valley State University and its Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC) seek an engineer/scientist with advanced degree/s (Ph.D. preferred), The successful candidate will demonstrate technology leadership ability in alternative and renewable energy development with expertise in technologies relevant to advanced energy storage (AES) systems and/or commercial scale wind energy development. Competancy expected in the ability to apply technology innovation to the economic development of the region, including business start-up and technology development opportunities that incorporate the MAREC business incubator resources.

 

An accomplished record of obtaining extramural funding for applied research and product development as well as the dissemination of results in academic and professional venues is expected. A program priority for this position is to work collaboratively with university partners and other stakeholders in the region towards achieving energy center of excellence designation.

 

The succesful candidate will have excellent communication and leadership skills and demonstrated capacity to  work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. Collaboration with the local and regional business community as well as the GVSU faculty is expected. Desired experience includes converting intellectual property into business opportunity, new product development, technical consultation and familiarity with the manufacturing environment.

 

Established in 2003, MAREC is an economic development partnership project of the City of Muskegon, Grand Valley State University and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The Associate Director will actively work with the MAREC Director to realize the full potential of MAREC as outlined in the strategic plan and as guided by the MAREC Advisory Board.
