How Your Liaison Librarian Can Help You
What's a liaison librarian? You might say your liaison librarian is your own personal librarian...
Liaison librarians are your point of contact to the library and its services. Each college, school, and department within the university is assigned a liaison librarian who can help support your teaching in a variety of ways. Not sure who your liaison librarian is? See our list of liaison librarians by department. Read on to learn more about how librarians can support you and your students.
Instructional support
|
|
Liaison librarians can support your instruction in a variety of ways:
- Create online course guides with a customized, discipline-specific set of resources tailored to your assignments (Request one.)
- Embed the same set of resources into your Blackboard site or other web page (Request one.)
- Look at your assignments and suggest appropriate ways to correlate library research, lead students in the use of library resources, and assess how well our resources will fit your assignment
- Visit with your class in order to guide your students in finding and using library resources appropriate to your assignment (Request this.)
You may also find the following teaching resources useful as you consider adding information literacy components to your classes:

Have a question or need help with your research? You can always swing by your nearest library location to ask in person, but you can also e-mail us, chat with us, or request a one-on-one research consultation with a librarian.
You may also find our subject guides useful as a way to determine what discipline-specific resources are available to you.

Course reserves
|
|
Placing course readings is a free and convenient way to make your course materials available to your students. We use an electronic system called Ares to keep track of both print and electronic course reserves. We can house print reserves at any of the library locations (Zumberge in Allendale, or Steelcase or Frey downtown), and Ares allows electronic course reserves to be accessed on- or off-campus.
You can place items on reserve yourself; read the instructions and then login to get started.
Please also review the GVSU Copyright Policy and use the Copyright Detector. |

Document Delivery
|
|
If the library doesn't have an article or book you need, we'll do our best to get it for you.
You may find that you do most of your article requests directly through the library databases; however, you can also enter your request manually. We can get most articles within a matter of days.
To request books, you may wish to see if you can request the book through MeLCat first, as it is a cooperative catalog for many Michigan libraries. (This means a book requested through MeLCat usually gets here more quickly than a book requested through Document Delivery.) If you can't find the book in MeLCat, please request it through the Document Delivery system.
