Borrowing Policies

Loan Periods

 
  Books Popular Reading & Paperbacks MelCat Books

Renewals

  • All GVSU owned books can be renewed twice. MeLCat books can be renewed once.
  • Undergraduate renewal periods are 3 weeks. Graduate renewal periods are 4 weeks.

Holds & Recalls

  • Books will be held for 7 days. MeLCat books will be held for 10 days.
  • All checked-out books are subject to recall by another library user. If an item you have checked out is recalled, you will be given a new due date.

Fines

  • Overdue fines for recalled books are $1.00 a day.
  • You will be charged $75.00 for books that are not returned. If the book was borrowed through MeLCat, the fee is $102.00.
  • If you damage a book, you will be charged for repair or replacement, whichever is cheaper.
  • Outstanding fines will prevent you from checking out additional items and may affect your ability to register for classes or graduate.

Non-Circulating Items

Reference materials can only be used in the library.

Renewals

  • Audio materials may be renewed for 2 weeks, up to 2 times. Videos may be renewed once for 1 week.
  • Videos borrowed from MeLCat cannot be renewed.

Non-Circulating Items

Audio & Video from Frey Learning Center do not circulate.

Current GVSU students, faculty, and staff can check out a laptop or iPad with a photo ID.

Loan Periods

  • Laptops can be checked out for 4 hours and may be taken out of the building.
  • iPads can be checked out for 3 days.

Renewals

  • Laptops and iPads cannot be renewed.

Fines

  • Laptops: $4.00 per hour late.
  • iPads: $10.00 per day late plus a $10 processing fee. If you lock the iPad with a password, it will not be considered returned until the password is deleted.
  • Borrowers will pay all costs associated with damage, loss, or theft of laptops and iPads.
  • Outstanding fines will prevent you from checking out additional items and may affect your ability to register for classes or graduate.

Bound magazines and journals may be checked out for 4 days.

Curriculum Materials Library magazines have the same loan periods as books.

  • If you damage a bound periodical, you will be charged for repair or replacement, whichever is cheaper.

Unbound magazines and journals are for in-library use only.

  • Undergraduates: 20 items
  • Graduates: 30 items
  • Faculty/Emeritus: 50 items
  • Staff: 20 items
  • Community/Alumnus: 10 items
