The William James Synoptic Lecture
7:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2009 Loosemore Auditorium Author, poet and screenwriter Sherman Alexie was named one of The New Yorker’s 20 top writers for the 21st century. The New York Times Book Review described him as “one of the major lyric voices of our time.” He has written several books including Reservation Blues, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian, and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. William James — the 19th century physician, psychologist, physiologist, philosopher and teacher, associated with a pragmatic approach to social, technical and economic areas, with a pluralistic attitude toward the physical and social sciences he pursued, and with an urbane humanism in his personal life.
