Description
LGBTQCrip: Dis/abling LGBTQ Identity Norms
LGBT identity categories are often determined through embodied scripts that create ableist expectations for the display of sexualities and genders. In this talk, you will learn a bit about the intersection of queer and disability theories--a nexus called "crip theory"--and how we can use this intersection to think through making LGBTQ spaces, politics, and narratives more accessible to people with disabilities.
Learning outcomes:
--How do LGBT spaces and narratives generally
become exclusionary to people with disabilities?
--How are visible
and invisible disabilities experienced differently, and how do those
experiences compare to LGBT experiences?
--What goals to queer,
trans, and crip justice movements share?
--What can we learn from
the shared history of queer, trans, and disability oppressions and activisms?
