LGBTA Pipeline: Leadership Program
Pipeline Leadership is a year-long program which focuses on increasing students’ awareness of social justice issues with a focus on concerns specific to the LGBTQ communities. Students increase their civic engagement skills by examining dynamics that create oppression as well as looking at how change is created.
While working for equality and justice for the LGBTQ communities, it is necessary to recognize the intersections of all justice issues. Through discussion, readings, movies, conferences, projects, speakers, and community projects, Pipeline leaders increase their awareness of justice issues and the impact of other “isms” on their community and in social justice work. In the second semester, students work together on a social justice project of their choosing either on campus or in the community. Last year’s Pipeline leaders created the Gender Neutral Housing Coalition for the purpose of expanding campus housing options to better meet the needs of students who believe that gender should not factor into their roommate options.
Participants who have completed a year of the Pipeline leadership program are eligible to become Ambassadors for the LGBT Resource Center. Pipeline is open to second year students and beyond. (First year students check out our Freshmen Queer Alliance!)
Pipeline Leadership will be meeting every Friday from 4:00pm - 7:00pm in the LGBT Resource Center (1161 Kirkhof Center) beginning September 28th.
