Out 'n' About
A support group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students and their allies. Resource for GVSU students and community. Call the Student Life Office at 616-331-2345 for meeting times and locations.
Disability Support Services
The DSS mission is to provide support services and accommodations that enhance the environment for persons with disabilities, and to help educate the university community on disability issues.
Allies and Advocates
Comprised of GVSU faculty and staff who offer support and resources in a safe environment for the members of the University community concerned with issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. When you see the Allies and Advocates logo displayed, you can be assured you will be treated with respect and dignity.
Counseling and Career Development Center
Provides students counseling on personal issues in a confidential and safe setting. Also offers seminars and on-going support groups. Located in 204 Student Services Building. 616-331-3266.
Dean of Students Office
The staff of the Dean of Students Office, located at 202 Student Services Building, serve as a resource to students concerned about gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender issues. 616-331-3585.
LGBT Scholarship
A scholarship has been established and will be awarded to a LGBT or ally student based in part on the student's support of LGBT students and concerns. Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office. For more information, contact Gary Van Harn at vanharng@gvsu.edu.
West Shore Aware Scholarship
This scholarship was created be West Shore Aware, a philanthropic organization if gay men and women striving to create a positive image by working for the communities in which they live. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students who demonstrate a positive sensitivity to an and involvement in issues relative to the gay community and who promote visibility by service to the larger community. LGBT and Women & Gender Studies: This link pulls together search tools for University Libraries' materials (books, articles, etc.) and websites relevant to LGBT issues and women and gender studies.
Affirmative Action

Women's Center
The Women's Center strives to educate both the university community, and the larger community, about gender-related issues, addressing matters of concern to women, and promoting a campus climate that is safe and respectful of all people. Located in 161 Kirkhof Student Center. 616-331-2748.
Office of Multicultural Affairs
The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is committed to building an inclusive campus that yields social harmony and learning vitality. Through our comprehensive programs, OMA fosters an appreciation and respect for the history, tradition, and culture of all people, and to empower students to be active learners. In addition, OMA initiates and supports efforts in recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff. Located in 130 Commons. 616-331-2177.
Career Services Office
The Career Services Office staff is dedicated to assisting you in finding that perfect internship or first job upon graduating. Their services include, but are not limited to, resume workshops, mock interviewing, employer fairs and employment statistics. The office is also dedicated to assisting LGBT students find placement in work settings that fit your specific needs. EXCEL Program
The EXCEL Program provides assistance to a diverse community of students making the transition to Grand Valley by offering support with academic and/or personal concerns. EXCEL advisors are well versed in many issues that impact collegial experiences and through individual meetings are able to support EXCEL participants. Located in 200 Student Services, 616-331-3780.
