Beginning September 1, 2013 requirements to advance from a Provisional Certificate to Professional Education Certificate are:
- At least 3 years of successful teaching
- MDE Approved 3 credit reading and diagnostics course
AND at least one of the following options (earned over the preceding 5 years)
- Six college semester credit hours, or
- 180 State Continuing Education Clock hours (formerly 18 SB-CEUs) in approved professional development (PD) activities, or
- Annual district-provided PD (DPPD) pursuant to section 1527 of the Revised School Code, or
- A combination of semester credit hours, SCECHs, or DPPD (30 hours of SCECHs or district provided PD are equivalent to 1 semester credit hour) Under this option, 30 DPPD hours can be used
Effective immediately are the following options for renewal of a Professional Education Certificate:
- Six college semester credit hours, or
- 180 SCECHs (formerly 18 SB-CEUs), or
- Annual DPPD pursuant to section 1527 of the Revised School Code, or (25 days over 5 years)
- A combination of SCECHs, DPPDs, and/or semester credit hours (30 clock hours of state continuing education or district provided PD is equivalent to 1 semester hour)
