Hot Topics for Educators series - Summer 2014

The Hot Topics for Educators series is now offering courses and workshops which allow educators to receive State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) or university academic credit. It's your choice! 

In order to receive the academic conversion rate for SCECHs, you must complete all assignments as if you are taking the class for academic credit. See syllabus for each class for evaluation requirements.

All courses are offered between June 16 and August 1, 2014. Dates are shown to the right of each course listing.

Make Curriculum Relevant with Project-Based Learning
July 23 & 24, 2014 - Wendy Colsen

Take your students’ learning to a new level and create hands-on, real world learning experiences that align with curriculum and excite students. Learn how to use the resources in your community to take your content to new heights.

In this one-credit course, we will focus on identifying potential community partnerships and learn how to extend your curriculum to include engaging projects that students find relevant. We will pinpoint content areas you’d like to enhance and build the step-by-step process towards implementation. Walk away with ideas and plans to implement a new project next fall.

Workshop: $125 includes 25 SCECHs

Using Learning Styles to Engage Learners

  • Must have earned a bachelor degree
  • You can enroll as a non-degree seeking student
  • If you are already admitted to a Grand Valley Master of Education program, you may register now
  • If you would like to register for more than one course (ie: two ED 600 or two ED 601, please call your local Grand Valley campus or the Records office at (616) 331-3327 or (800) 748-0246 to register.
  • Consult your advisor to see if the Hot Topics class you take can apply to your program.

Tuition Cost

  • Graduate tuition rate effective for the 2014 summer semester is $562 per credit hour for Michigan residents.

 GVSU Network Account Information

  • Your Network Account provides access to all GVSU computer labs, GVSU student email and Blackboard.
  • If you do not know your network account name, log in to MyBanner with your student ID and pin. Click on Personal Information, then GVSU Network Account Password Reset. Your network login will be shown and you will have a chance to reset your password if you have forgotten it.
  • If you are taking an online class for SCECHs, you will be sent a username and password from the Hot Topics for Educators office to use for your account access to Blackboard. This will be different from any GVSU student network IDs.
