We hope that students, faculty, and staff act as sustainbility stewards on and off the Grand Valley Meijer Campus in Holland. Check out the Student Sustainability Guide for ideas about being more sustainable.

Here are some ways that you can help during your time on campus:

  • Recycle! Paper recycling bins are set up in all classroom, office, and lab locations. Paper, glass, and plastic recycling is available in the vending/café area.
  • “Free”cycle! Give away used, but usable items to others who may benefit from them. For example, you’ll have some books that you want to keep for reference, and others that you’d like to sell back, but consider donating books to book drives in the local community.
  • Reuse School Supplies! Take that binder from last year, recycle your old notes, and use it again for the next semester! Purchase pens and pencils that can be refilled. Refills typically cost less, use less energy to create and produce less waste.
  • Think Before You Print! Each time your print a document, you utilize a variety of resources: electricity, paper, ink. In addition to these resources, each requires energy to produce, ship, etc.
  • Turn Off The Lights! When you are done in a room, shut off the lights before leaving.
  • Carpool or Take the Max To Campus! Check out our Facebook page for carpooling possibilities or visit http://www.catchamax.org/
  • Dress In Layers! Although the Meijer Campus strives to keep our classrooms at a comfortable temperature, we also recognize that modifying the thermostat by as little as one degree can make a huge difference in heating and cooling costs and save tons of energy!
