Quite simply, Community Engagement is about connecting with those around us to build communities of lifelong learners. It's about connecting the great things happening on campus, with the great things going on in our communities.
"Engagement" can mean many things to many people. As a part of Continuing Education at Grand Valley State University, we define Community Engagement as:
Working and learning collaboratively with our constituents to create mutually beneficial relationships. It is an interactive process that is connected to the scholarship, research, or creative activities of the University. Authentic engagement inspires action and transforms culture.
Our constituents include the communities of Holland, Muskegon, and Traverse City (the places we offer degree completion programs) and those in West Michigan who need access to the University. Within those communities, we serve people seeking to complete a degree, professionals, and lifelong learners.
We also work collaboratively within the University to connect departments to their communities.
