The Mentor's Role

All GVSU faculty and staff are encouraged to support students’ academic, professional, and personal growth.  Interaction with faculty and staff inspires learning and self-discovery, positively affecting student satisfaction and retention.

The Mentor’s time commitment is minimal, but an extremely important component of the program.  We recommend mentoring no more than five students in order to give each student sufficient attention.

The Mentor’s responsibilities include:

  • Meeting face-to-face with your student at least once each semester
  • Maintaining monthly email communication with your student
  • Providing feedback and evaluating student e-portfolio reflections through use of the Leadership University website
  • Sharing resources and providing guidance, support and encouragement to your student
