Choose to VOLUNTEER to make Leadership Summit 2016 a success!
The Laker Leadership Programs team is asking YOU to volunteer for this year's Leadership Summit to be held on February 20, 2016!
What is Leadership Summit?
Leadership Summit of Grand Valley State University is a state-wide premier leadership conference and campus tradition entering its 19th year. Attracting over 300 college students from across the state and region, it is one of the largest undergraduate student leadership conferences in Michigan. Leadership Summit strives to foster leadership development for undergraduate students in multidisciplinary aspects of campus life. Areas of focus include: Campus Wide Programming, Diversity, Service Learning and Civic Engagement, Greek Life, Basic Leadership Skills, and Implementation of Leadership Knowledge.
This is a great opportunity for you to experience a campus tradition and make a significant contribution to the success of the Leadership Summit. The Leadership Summit would not happen without the help of students like you! Volunteering provides you not only with an inside view of how this event is run, but also includes dinner and a conference gift. Use your leadership abilities to help your peers gain from this experience!
Requirements to volunteer for Leadership Summit:
1. All Leadership Summit volunteers are required to be available for Volunteer Training (date and time TBA). At this training volunteers will learn their responsibilities, and receive a rundown of the event and expectations.
2. All volunteers must be available to volunteer on the day of Leadership Summit: Saturday, February 20, 2016. Each volunteer must be available for the entire duration of time they indicate on their volunteer registration form (either 11:30am-6:00pm, 11:30am-2:30pm, or 2:15-6:00 pm).
3. Volunteers must also register to attend the conference. Volunteers will not be able to eat dinner or take a conference gift without being registered for the conference. There are a limited number of DISCOUNT codes available to GVSU students which will reduce the $20 registration fee, allowing you to attend for $10. Volunteers are encouraged to register using these codes. Please visit the registration page for more information.
Volunteers are also expected to attend the conference during the portion of the day that they are not volunteering. We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity!
Volunteers will be responsible for one or more of the duties listed below. They will be informed of their assignments at Volunteer Training.
Set Up and Tear Down: All volunteers will participate in the set up and tear down of facilities and equipment depending on the shift assigned as directed by the Leadership Summit Planning Board.
Welcome Greeters/Directional Staff: Volunteers will welcome participants as they enter the Kirkof Center directing them to the registration tables during the morning. Throughout the day, volunteers will be needed to monitor hallway traffic and direct participants to the next location. During Volunteer Training, volunteers will be given an overview of the layout.
Presentation Hosts: Volunteers will be assigned to a specific presentation room location. As a presentation host, the volunteer will introduce the presenter and assist him or her if needed. Additionally, presentation hosts will be responsible for administering and collecting participant evaluations at the closure of each presentation.
Check-in/Registration : Volunteers will assist the Registration Chair with check-in of participants. They will also pass out conference gifts and answer questions during check-in.
Information Table: Volunteers are needed to staff and answer questions at the information table throughout the day.
Presenters' Lounge Staff: Volunteers will be assigned to check-in presenters and answer questions.
