Strengths Based Leadership Seminar- One Day

The First Year Leadership Exploration is a 5-week leadership emersion program designed to assist newer leaders in creating and enhancing their personal philosophy of leadership while developing basic leadership skills and learning about all of the leadership opportunities that the GVSU community has to offer. FYLE teaches leadership through interactive activities and discussion led by student leaders and GVSU staff.

The Laker Leadership Programs are proud to bring back this great workshop for student leaders. This is a single 2 hour workshop designed to help participants better understand and utilize concepts of sustainability in their student organizations. This workshop will focus on the Triple Bottom Line concept and how student leaders can use it be socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable. Participants are encouraged to sign up with at least 3-4 other members of their student organization.

The Intermediate Leaders Institute (ILI) is a half-day mini-retreat that enhances your understanding of team dynamics and group values. This retreat is designed for student organization members and individuals to develop your interpersonal leadership skills, focusing on building your capacity to work with groups and collaborate.



Throughout the day you will participate in discussions and activities that will give you tools to take back and implement to your organizations or work. Learning how to use the Appreciative Inquiry (AI) model, participants will discover the practice of searching and seeking out the best in people, organizations, and our world through of asking questions that strengthen a system's capacity to capture, expect, and amplify positive potential.



We will also look closely at three aspects of the Social Change Model: Collaboration, finding a common purpose, and working through controversy with civility. These are aspects that will help your group to continually succeed and to achieve high goals.



Participating in this program will help you to become a leader in groups and in the community, while developing the characteristics needed to become a more established member of the Grand Valley leadership community and meet some of your fellow leaders. There is no cost to GVSU students. Members of registered student organizations (no limit) and individuals are encouraged to participate.

On Wednesday January 15, 2013 the GVSU community will honor Grand Valley’s student leaders at the “I am Grand Valley” Leadership Reception.

The Inclusion and Diversity Leadership Seminar is a 2-week workshop series on valuing and advocating for inclusion and diversity.  Participants will discuss the concepts of power and privilege, learn about relational leadership as it relates to inclusion and explore how to integrate these ideas into current leadership practices.

Leadership Summit of Grand Valley State University is a state-wide premier leadership conference and campus tradition entering its 17^th year. It is a student-run conference which strives to foster leadership development for undergraduate students, in multidisciplinary aspects of campus life. Composed of a dynamic keynote address, over 30 workshops to select from, a leadership case study competition sponsored by Omicron Delta Kappa, and more, Leadership Summit has something to offer students at every level of leadership!

This conference is open to all college students. Advance registration is required. Refer to the website for registration details and deadlines. A limited number of walk-ins are accepted pending space the day of the conference.

CLS consists of 2 sessions from held once a week on Mondays in March from 6:00 - 8:30 pm. on GVSU's Allendale campus during the winter semester.  Attendance at all sessions is required to be considered a CLS graduate.
