Valerie Jones Valerie Jones joined the GVSU Office of Student Life staff in August 2008 as one of several Assistant Directors. She directly oversees the Laker Leadership Programs and the Community Service Learning Center staff, programs, and resources. Additionally, Valerie serves as a resource for all Service & Advocacy groups on campus and is the direct advisor of several service organizations at GVSU, including Alternative Breaks. Prior to arriving at GVSU, Valerie spent several years working in a service and leadership office at a private university in Miami, FL. Valerie earned her undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University and M.Ed in College Student Affairs Leadership at GVSU. She is originally from the Grand Rapids area is delighted to be a part of the Office of Student Life team and work with GVSU students!
Theresa Rowland Graduate Assistant, Leadership Development (Laker Leadership Programs) Before attending GVSU, Theresa received her undergraduate degree in management/human relations while living in Nashville, TN. Most recently, Theresa attended Equiss, A Social Justice Experience in Tucson, AZ and presented at MCPA's Diversity Summit conference with a colleague in Bay City, MI. Theresa enjoys working with students as they discover their leadership potential. Theresa will graduate in April 2010 with a master's in education. Adam is a 2nd year graduate student in the College Student Affairs Leadership program. He is originally from the Metro Detroit area, where he studied Communication at Oakland University. At Grand Valley, Adam works as an Assistant Apartment Director in Murray and Van Steeland. Adam is looking forward to working with the Laker Leadership Programs during the Fall 2009 semester. Laker Leadership Programs Staff Assistant Lora is a senior at Grand Valley working on her Bachelor of Science in Public and Nonprofit Administration. She is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity, and she is the current Vice President of Service for that organization. Lora has previously been a Service Intern for the Office of Student Life and looks forward to working in the nonprofit sector after graduation. Laker Leadership Interns (2009-2010)
Jemeia Durr is a senior at Grand Valley State University where she is studying in Public and Non-profit Administration. Jemeia plans to graduate from Grand Valley in May of 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in community health. She wants to continue her studies after graduation by going on to pursue a Master's degree in Health Administration. Jemeia is happy to be chosen as a LLP intern because she feels she will be able to interact closely with a diverse group of individuals, which is something that she is very passionate about. She also feels that she will gain skills from this internship that will be able to help her in any of her future endeavors.
is a newer student at GVSU, having just transferred from HFCC in the Winter ’09 semester. She started off studying Journalism and Political Science, but recently decided that Nursing is a more fitting path. When this Junior is not busy with school, she likes to read and constantly has music playing. She is a friendly and open person, always willing to listen or lend a hand. Participating in leadership activities in high school and college, and being a Junior Counselor at MASC/MAHS Leadership Camp has made her positive and optimistic. A good attitude can turn any situation around!
Kareesa Franklin is a senior in the Advertising and Public Relations program. Kareesa, originally from the *Windy City* Chicago, is a member of YBBW (You Beautiful Black Woman) where she serves on the E-Board as event coordinator, she is a SPDL peer mentor and also very active within Murray, South B and Calder's Community Council. She is excited about being a intern this year and looks forward to working with the other interns and staff in the LLP on the various activies to be completed this year. Kareesa will be graduating in April 2010 and after Grand Valley she will join Teachers For America before attending graduate school. Laura Dean is currently entering her junior year at Grand Valley State University. Laura is originally from Dearborn, MI, where she attended the University of Michigan Dearborn until January 2009. She will be majoring in Advertising /Public Relations and Hospitality and Tourism Management. She will also be receiving dual degrees and a minor in business. Laura desires to become more involved on campus through clubs such as HTM, PRSSA, and running club. Over the summer Laura is trained for the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon which will take place in the fall. She is looking forward to her internship this fall and is excited to help shape future leaders at Grand Valley. Karen Hein |
