Among the many struggles that Latin America faces, the area of Human Rights has become a beacon of light and hope for Latin Americans.  Many Latin Americans have witnessed and experienced all sorts of limitations and abuses to their basic human rights. This course will discuss and focus on these issues and on the "new" emerging human rights as well, such as gender identity and environmental rights, using a wide variety of media, articles, interviews and literature analysis.  In addition, the role of the United States in dealing with these issues will be discussed.
