Alumnus-LAS Minor, Jane Newton

"The Latin American Studies minor offered me a much broader perspective on the very narrow experiences I had had with Latin America before starting at GVSU in 2007. My LAS minor included a multi-country study abroad (Mexico, Peru, and Argentina with side trips to Uruguay and Chile), an internship, and classes. The concepts—history, international relations, and political science, to name a few—I learned through the LAS minor complemented my public relations major and contributed to a more well-rounded education and my current understanding of news and world events as they pertain to Latin America. My favorite and most memorable classes in college were LAS classes that deepened my affection for Latin American culture, language, history, people, food, and travel."
