Guidelines for Responsible Alcohol Use

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the only "safe" or "responsible" use of alcohol is moderation, which is defined as:

Men - a maximum of 2 standard drinks per day
Women - a maximum of 1 standard drink per day

However, even moderate drinking can be dangerous to some individuals under certain circumstances. (For more information, visit the Signs of Dangerous Drinking section of this web site).

What counts as one drink?

ONE DRINK = 12 ounces of regular beer 5 ounces of wine 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor
